For over 27 years, the Koehler family has dedicated its collective heart and soul to Koehler Winery. The family actively manages farming of the 40-acre property, using sustainable vineyard and winemaking practices to craft organically grown, small-batch wines.
The vines are cared for by one of the most skilled and experienced viticultural teams in the Santa Ynez Valley—many of whom have been with the estate for decades. These long-standing relationships foster a sense of pride and continuity, cultivating not only exceptional fruit but also a genuine family atmosphere across the vineyard and the property.
Derek Koehler, born and raised on the estate, represents the next generation of the Koehler family guiding the winery forward. His early immersion in vineyard life and cellar work laid the foundation for a deep understanding of the winemaking process. Today, as sales manager and assistant winemaker, he bridges hands-on production with market outreach—sharing Koehler wines with partners across California and beyond.
Derek brings a sustainability-first mindset and conscientious stewardship to every facet of operations. Working alongside winemaker Trace Brueske and the vineyard team, he ensures each vintage reflects the integrity of the land and the character of the estate.
You’ll often find Derek guiding tastings, where his easy nature and lifelong connection to the property bring depth and authenticity to every conversation.
A beloved local and Koehler favorite, Dan Zurliene recently marked his 23rd anniversary with the winery. Celebrated for his humor and genuine hospitality, he’s one of the friendliest stewards in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Dan is especially cherished by our wine club members, who appreciate his personal touch and uncanny ability to remember everyone by name. Whether greeting guests or hosting club events, he brings warmth and seasoned expertise to every interaction—making each visit feel personal, memorable, and uniquely Koehler.
